- It’s so much work! I’m planning on going the self-publishing route which is a CRAZY amount of work, but even the traditional route is a ton of work (so I’ve heard). On top of the actual writing, there’s query letters, formatting, editing, and of course, promoting oneself like crazy. I feel like half of what I do is just me promoting myself.
- No matter what route you go, it’s a collaborative process. I write because I want to get AWAY from people. Now I have to find agents and editors and designers??? How do I do that?
- What if no one is interested? I mean, I LOVE my book. I worked so hard on it. It came out in 1 1/2 drafts (shocking considering my current WIP is on its 4th draft). But what if people think it’s silly? Some of my beta readers fell out of it, what if readers do too? What if I don’t get any readers?
- It’s so hard putting yourself out there. This book is my baby. I’ve nurtured it for years. It’s a part of me. Now I’m going to let it go, off into the big, bad world, and that’s scary. What if its not ready? What if I’m not ready to let it go?
But this is something that I have wanted to do for years. It’s a challenge I have to face. I’m going to do it, but I’m terrified.
